Reporting Credit Card Fraud

It is very important that you report credit card fraud as quickly as possible, as card providers will be able to cancel cards immediately for you over the phone, and this can help limit the amount of damage done to your account in terms of fraudulent charges.  This will also mean that you can start the processing of resolving your case as soon as possible and getting any false charges reimbursed and also applying for new cards issued to you.

Be prepared

Even if you rarely use your credit cards this type of fraud is becoming more and more prevalent, and so you should have a plan in place should the worse happen and your credit card details are misused.  Make sure you have an organised approach to your credit cards, and keep a secure list (password protected on your computer or locked in your safe) of every single credit card, and also what you have used them for.  Then make sure you get your statements through each month, and cross check all of the transactions against your own records.  Query any suspicious charges immediately with your provider and keep your statements in a secure place for up to a year, in case you need to refer back to them at any point.  If you use your credit cards a lot this can be an onerous chore, but it is important as if you do not report any fraudulent charges in a timely manner then your credit card company may be within their rights to refuse to reimburse you if you discover them at a later date.

Contact Lists
